South Bend, IN 10/29/2010
The Street Kids Softball organization - in cooperation with Home
Comfort Experts - announced today the 2010 Awards Banquet will
be held on Saturday, December 4th, 2010 at the beautiful
Marriott Hotel in downtown South Bend.
The Marriott is located directly next door to the College
Football Hall of Fame on North St. Joseph Street. The Hall
of Fame hosted the 2006 and 2007 award banquets.
In 2009, the banquet was held in Michigan City at the Blue Chip
Casino. It was the largest SKS award banquet ever, but by moving the banquet closer to home, the hope is more can attend.
"The Blue Chip was very good to us last year and everyone had a memorable time, especially the after parties," said SKS
director TJ Jorgensen. "But we feel by moving the event to South Bend we can accommodate more people and make it a
closer drive for most. Our after parties are usually a lot of fun, and by having the event at the Marriott this year, there are lots of
options after the banquet concludes. This will be a great event."
This years guest speaker is the
legendary Rusty Bumgarnder of
Combat Sports. Rusty is a two-time
member of the Men's National USA
Slow-Pitch team (2009-2010) and
has won many major world series
championships. One of the best
players to ever play the sport, Rusty
graduated from Wake Forest
University, where he played football
and baseball. He went on to play
professional baseball before
becoming a household name in slow
pitch softball. An obscure fact about
Rusty: He was the first American
signee to the expansion Florida
Marlins!
Rusty was honored for his amazing
career by being inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2006. Always having a soft spot for kids, Rust has taken part in
several charity events. The work Street Kids has done with their outreach programs through Street Kids Care was a major
reason he wanted to come to South Bend.
"I love reading about Street Kids Softball and the work they do off the field," said the 41-year-old star from North Carolina.
"With all the things happening around us today, and for a team like this to step up and take part in their community is awesome.
I cannot wait to get to South Bend and meet this amazing group of guys!"
Tickets to the awards banquet, which includes an elaborate dinner, is available now for only $30 per person. In order to attend,
you must register above. Its very simple and takes about 30 seconds. You will be directed to another page that will give you
more details of the event, and offer you several options on how to pay for your tickets. The event will be hosted by former
SKS player and multiple award winner, Lanny Fisher.
"Being involved with Street Kids for the last several years has been a great way for me to close out my career," said the former
world champion pitcher on Friday. "I'm looking forward to hosting a night that celebrates all of the Street Kids family of teams -
the achievements on the field, as well as the incredible accomplishments off the field through Street Kids Care."
In 2009, softball hall of famer Jeff Hall was the guest speaker. At the time of this writing, SKS was still working out the details
for the guest speaker on December 4th.
