Street Kids Win Mishawaka Spring Tourney; B3/SKS
Starts Out Hot (3-0), Loses to Outlaws Early
Mishawaka, IN  4/18/10

After a perfect 3-0 on Saturday, the B3/Street
Kids softball team lost their first game of the single
elimination round on Sunday, dropping to OC
Outlaws.  The Street Kids/Suburban South/Easton
team defeated Squads Softball 31-17 after
defeating Tasers, 36-30 in the semi finals.

On Saturday, the games itself were not the
highlight at all, but rather the emotional dedication
of the new naming of Rose North, which is now
called Berto's Field, in memory of Alberto
Naranjo, the softball player who tragically died
on this exact day one year ago. Chad Meyers,
Mishawaka Commissioner of softball, made the
announcement in front of approximately 80 people
who gathered in silence as he asked those in
attendance to always remember who Berto was
and what he meant to each player.

"I know he meant so much to all of you, and with this new dedication, we can make sure that none of us ever forget Berto,"
Meyers said to the onlookers.

Berto's family, including his mother, were in attendance and also spoke to the crowd, thanking them for loving her son so deeply.
SKS released
two new videos on Friday of Berto's mother reading a letter she wrote to her son, as well as some local players
talking about what they remember most about Berto.

This weekend also marked the one year anniversary of when SKS player Shane Varga was told he had cancer. But through his
faith and determination, and lots of painful chemotherapy, Varga defeated the disease and returned to play with SKS in the fall.
He also played in the first game of this weekends tournament, going a perfect 2-for-2.
