Street Kids Sweep Double Header Over Powerful
CCAC Pro Shop to Open Mishawaka Season
Mishawaka, IN  5/3/2011

Jeremy Hochstetler, Jay Jeffery, Tim Austin and TJ Jorgensen all had
seven hits each to help the Street Kids/Easton/Rover Plus Nine team
sweep an opening night double header over a very talented CCAC Pro
Shop team from Warsaw.

CCAC, featuring several former SKS players including former MVP
Jake Underwood, long time SK player Dan Garey, Justin Newcomer,
Justin Newcomer and Reggie Uribe, who won a state title with SKS in
2007, entered the league with hopes of playing good competition to set
up for their weekend play in NSA. They got what they wanted tonight,
facing an equally talented SKS team, which features a different look since
they last set foot on the fields in Mishawaka. They also debuted the new Street Kids Care jersey, with pink for breast cancer
awareness as the primary color. The Kids will wear the SK Care shirts as their normal jersey on Tuesday nights in Mishawaka.

With six new players in uniform tonight for SKS from last years team that finished the league season 69-2, the Street Kids team
of 2011 came out strong tonight at Rose West. After three in the first inning, they came back with 10 runs in the second, and
another eight runs in the third and they cruised to a 25-17 win in game one of the double header.

In the nightcap, the game was much closer, with the game tied at 14 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Kids would go on a
hitting spree scoring eight in the bottom of the fourth and after holding CCAC scoreless in the top of the fifth, they only needed
two runs to end the game by the mercy rule. Jeremy Hochstetler led off with a double and with one out, Leland Schmucker
doubled in Hochstetler. With the game winning run at second base, CCAC pitcher Reggie Uribe walked Jay Jeffery
intentionally setting up a possible double play. Scott Martin hit a rocket at second baseman Jake Underwood, who knocked it
down and threw out Martin, but the runners moved up a base. So with two outs, Uribe intentionally walked Fred Schmucker to
set up a force play at any base but Tim Austin thought
he had been there long enough, and ended the game
with a single up the middle, scoring Leland
Schmucker. Street Kids won the game, 24-14.

Jorgensen led the way with three home runs and
along with Leland Schmucker both drove in a team
high seven runs. Hochstetler had a team high five
extra base hits, including three doubles.

Chris Yoder was red hot for the CCAC team,
hitting balls with sheer strength. But everyone
was impressed with the continued skill of veteran
Carl Underwood. Underwood, 52, continues to
still be one of the most feared hitters in all of
softball, and he showed again tonight why he is
still one of the best hitters of all time from the area.
Long time SKS player Dan Garey also hit the ball
very well for CCAC.

Street Kids (16-2 overall, 2-0 in leagues) will
head to Topeka, Indiana to make their league
debut there on Thursday before heading to Indianapolis for the final time this season for the NSA B/C NIT. Many of the top
teams in the Midwest will be in Indy this weekend, so this tournament will truly test the SKS team.
