Midwest Mayhem's
Upset Bid Falls Short
Dan Garey of Street Kids/Easton lines a single during a game in Mishawaka on June 1st, 2010.
Mishawaka, IN  6/1/2010

Joe Horvath went 7-for-8 with three home runs
and Mike Miller added six hits, including two
home runs and two doubles as the Street Kids
Softball team withstood an overall poor night on
offense to sweep Midwest Mayhem on Tuesday
night at Rose Park.

Mayhem was looking for the upset and almost got
it in the first game. Trailing by one run in the top of
the seventh, Horvath lined a two run homer to give
the Kids the lead, 9-8. Mayhem got the tying run
on base, but failed to move him around as SKS
won the first game by a run.
The nightcap was also pretty close, but this time both teams put up more runs. Mike Miller, who did not begin the season on either
league roster for SKS but was picked up on Thursday nights after a sudden injury to a player, had four hits as SKS rolled to a
23-16 win. On Tuesday, Miller was just out to watch the game, but was asked to fill in as outfielder Scott Martin and pitcher Mark
Hershberger were both going to miss the games. Following the league rules, manager TJ Jorgensen contacted commissioner Chad
Meyers and made the necessary roster adjustment to make Miller legal and it was a good thing, as Miller proved to be a key player
for a team that combined to bat just .573.

Street Kids (
46-11 overall, 19-1 in leagues) will return to the diamond for league action on Thursday at Walker Field, a park the
Kids have not played at in many years. Walker is located
at 2100 S. Walnut Street in South Bend near Rum Village.
The park is known for its "silver monster", a high left field
fence. After leagues, the SKS tournament team will return
to Kokomo, Indiana for a Class B NSA tournament, the
Tom Thumb Classic.

Game Notes-  SKS manager TJ Jorgensen reached a
milestone on Tuesday when he connected for his 1,100th
career home run. Jorgensen also hit two doubles on the
night, giving him 1,000 career doubles. "Its nice to know
that I have had some sort of consistency in my life and
softball career, to be able to keep track of every at bat
from 1996 on, from that first home run in Vandalia,
Michigan to tonight. It may not mean much to most
people, but when my career is finally over, it will be nice
to look back and say I did that."

Jorgensen's career stats are always posted on his personal
page under the roster tab on the SKS website.
