SKS Battle From Behind
Twice and Win in Buch.
Kids beat Bonzai in highly touted rematch
Buchanan, MI 7/15/09
The Street Kids/Suburban
South/PAS softball team came
into Buchanan on Wednesday
night with a 16-0 record, the
league title all but wrapped up
and nothing more to prove.
They were without several
players including injured
outfielder Joe Horvath, still
nursing a broken rib. But a
highly touted rematch against
league rival Bonzai Softball
was still to be played.
The Kiracofe runner-up Bonzai
Softball team started out hot,
taking a 10-3 lead early, but the
Kids battle back as they have
all year and dimed Bonzai,
26-15 on a walk off three run
home run by Chris Firebaugh.
In the nightcap against Masten Farms, the Kids were trailing again by a score of 10-4 in the fourth inning
before putting up some big offensive numbers and winning that game, 26-19. With the sweep, SKS
finishes 18-0 in the regular season and will play in the single elimination league tournament next
Wednesday night, beginning at 7pm.
Joe Richard (9-for-9) and Chris Firebaugh (9-for-10) combined to go 18-for-19, with five home runs
and 24 rbi's.
Up next for the Street Kids (69-23 overall; 33-5 overall in two leagues) is the Mishawaka City
Championship this Saturday. The Kids will be without several starters, but will still aim to win their 7th
tournament of the season.
