Street Kids Fail to Repeat as State Champs
Kids come out strong against Nolans, come up short against Thorton's
Avon, IN-

The Street Kids/Suburban South softball team won the
2007 ASA Class C state championship in Muskegon,
Michigan last year and was looking to repeat as state
champions this weekend in Avon, Indiana, this time at the
Class B state tournament.

Street Kids/Suburban - proudly sponsored by Easton
Sports and Pennsylvania Avenue Sports - came out
strong in their first game, defeating Nolan's, 33-17. Lanny
Fisher led the way with five hits, while Jake Underwood,
Jamie Everett and Chris Firebaugh all had four hits each.
Everett hit two home runs, while Underwood hit one and
drove in six runs. Firebaugh had three triples, tying a team
record.

The next game was against Thortons, a very good Class
B team featuring Team Mizuno player Brian Goins. The
Kids hung in with Thortons to the end, but finished just
short, losing 22-18. Jake Underwood, Firebaugh and
Dan Garey all led the way with three hits each. Jake
Underwood and Carl Underwood both hit home runs,
while newly acquired outfielder Tony Leaf connected for
a home run as well.

With the loss against Thortons, the team was pitted in the
losers bracket against Midwest Softball. The Kids came
out strong scoring five runs in the first inning, but would
only score four more the remainder of the game as
Midwest Softball defeated the Kids, 20-9, ending the
Kids' chance of repeating as state champions.

"It was a tough loss, because we expected more from
ourselves," said pitcher Lanny Fisher. "But we can't harp
over this loss. We need to regroup and get ready for
NSA state this coming weekend."
