Winning Al Fisher Memorial Bittersweet for Son, Michael

Buchanan, MI 5/1/10
B3/Street Kids knew what this tournament meant as a team,
but more importantly to the leader Coach Mike Fisher. The
team went 4-1 (2-1 in round robin play) at the Al Fisher
Memorial, father of B3 Mike Fisher and former SKS player
Lanny, in Buchanan, MI.
“Competing in the finals for a tournament in honor of my dad
is special,” Mike Fisher said. “But, competing against your
brother is extra special.”
The finals did not disappoint with the team of Lanny Fisher
and Mike Fisher squaring off. Call it what you will, emotion,
energy, adrenaline, the feeling before the game was different.
The two teams exchanged the lead throughout the game with
no one wanting it to end.
The one day tournament was filled with players that played
with or against the late Al Fisher.
“Some of the old people that played with my dad like Scotty
Goodwin, Brian Lange, and Steve Croft made it special.”
Fisher added.
Players recognized what it meant to get this for the coach.
“Everybody played loose, had fun and knew what it meant to
pull together when it was time,” Simon Rodriguez added. “I
was glad to see us win it for Juggs (Mike Fisher).”
“I really just wanted to win the tournament for Juggs because
I know how much it meant to him,” Dave Schoen added.
Mike Fisher had been in the position before, the last two
years in the finals, but couldn’t get the win.
“Winning this tournament is one thing I wanted to add to my
resume, this one is special,” softly said Mike Fisher.
While there has to be a winner at the end of every sport, this
game produced two winners in which Al Fisher can be proud
of.
B3/Street Kids has now won back-to-back tournaments,
and while not on the schedule, will travel to Grand Rapids
this weekend to continue the momentum.
