BC Naz/Street Kids Open the 2010 Season!
Beavercreek, OH- 5/3/2010
After a long weekend of rain – the opening to the
Beavercreek Nazarene softball season was in some
jeopardy….However, Monday was a beautiful sunny
day in Beavercreek and the diamonds at Rotary Park
were in good shape to start the season…
Up first for the guys from the Naz – Clancy’s Tavern
in the 6:00 league….the fields look great – umpire is
there – The Naz is chomping at the bit to get after it –
one problem…No Clancy’s…so the season starts
with a forfeit…although you never turn down a Win –
this was not the way they wanted to get their first one
to start the year… So now they had to hang around
for an hour before they officially got their season
underway.
To open the 7:10 league the guys from The Naz
played a team they are very familiar with. Mike

Buckwalter for Judge – formerly the Greene County Enforcers…This is a team that the Naz has played some epic battles
with both in regular season play and in a few tournaments. This match-up normally comes down to the last team at the bat
before it is settled...
The Naz put a quick 2 spot up on the board in the top of the first when Joe Noya plated Rick Hurley and J. Michael
Mummert with a 2 run sacrifice fly to deep left center field. That was just the start of a good offensive night for Noya – more
on that later...
The Naz knew their opponent would hit the ball - their thoughts were confirmed right away when the home team put up ten
runs in the bottom of the first. There were several solid hits, but the normally trust Naz defense had a few lapses in their first
contest of the year.
What was expected to be a shoot-out going down to the last at bat quickly looked like it might be a run-rule contest at the
Naz trailed 14-3 going to the fifth inning. The Naz finally got a little something going stringing together several hits in the inning
– when the dust settled the visitors put up six runs and were right back in it. They just needed a good defensive inning to get
the bats right back out and make a game of it. That was the plan – but that plan was foiled, five runs later and the momentum
just gained was lost. Game number one in the 7:10 league ended with a 21-10 loss.
Offensively Joe Noya and J.Michael Mummert had nice nights – collecting seven of the ten RBI’s as well as seven hits
between them. Johnny King, Jeff Graley, Tony Copper and Matt Bohlmann also had two hits each – but the Naz could not
string enough hits together at the right times.
