Another Monday, Another Sweep for BC Naz/Street Kids
Beavercreek, OH-   6/7/2010
Having last week off for the Memorial Day holiday did not slow the
guys from Beavercreek Nazarene down, in fact – they exploded for
46 hits over two games on Monday night at Rotary Park.

First up was a game against Rich’s Pawn Shop – it actually started
off kind of rough for the Naz guys as Rich’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead
in the top of the first. The lead would not last long – the Naz sent 16
guys to the plate in the first inning and scored 11 runs.  It started out a
night where everybody in the line-up scored at least one run except
Rick Hurley. To make up for that Hurley picked up three hits and
drove in three runs so he was still a major part of the win.

After the big first inning – James Mummert led off the second with an
inside-the-park Homerun – so one batter into the second inning and
the Naz led 12-5. The next couple of inning saw the Naz put many
runners on base, but could not deliver the big knock out blow and
going to the bottom of the fifth inning – The Pawn Shop had closed
the gap to 12-9.  Justin Sears started that inning out with an infield
single and the hit parade was rolling again. An error , a walk and 4
more hits later and the Naz had plated five more runs had a little more
breathing room. The Naz would tack on a run in the sixth for a final
of 18-9, pushing their record to 3-1 during the 6:00 hour.

It was a strong team effort: Jeff Graley led the team with four hits, while Hurley, Shawn Kitchin and Mark Spitzke all collected three hits.

The Naz was feeling good after the game 1 victory, but waiting for them at 7:10 was John Ross – who currently led the league with an
undefeated record.  This one would prove to be a nail-biter from the first pitch to the last swing between two good teams.

After allowing a lead off single to start the game, Matt Bohlmann was able to get some help from his defense to get out of the inning.
Bohlmann snagged a rocket back up the middle to end the inning and get his team pumped up.

Chad Millette started the bottom of the inning with a hard grounder down third that made its way into left field. Millette was hustling out of
the box and slid into second with a double. Millette scored two batters later when the third baseman booted a grounder by Johnny King.

John Ross would tie the game up in the top of the third plating a run.  The tie would not last long, Bohlmann walked to start the bottom of the
inning, then hits from Millette, Mummert, Graley and Jon Barchus plated three more runs and the Naz had the lead again at 4-1. The teams
would trade runs in the fourth inning and we still had a low scoring going at 5-2.

Into the fifth inning we go and there Jeff Graley got things going with one out.  Graley, Barchus and Sears all singled to load the bases. Jason
Robertson plated one run with a sacrifice fly then Shawn Kitchin singled in another run. Nathan Reeves plated the third run with a double
and the Naz had an 8-2 lead after five innings.

This one was far from over though – John Ross cut the lead in half with a three run homer before the Naz could get an out in the sixth inning.
The defense made a couple of plays though and the Naz still had the lead and came to bat to add some insurance runs on. Although they put
three more guys on base – the Naz could not add to the lead, giving John Ross hope as they came to take their final swings of the night.
Again Ross did their damage early- plating three quick runs after one out was recorded.  The Naz get out of it and came for their final at bat
needing one run to win.

Just as they had done a few weeks back – the Naz took the drama right out of the situation: Jon Barchus led off with a single, Sears then
moved him up with a solid single and the winning run was at second with no outs.  Jason Robertson sent the home crown out for ice cream
happy as he hit one down third that was too hot for the third basemen to handle and Barchus scored easily from second giving the Naz a 9-8
victory.

The Naz had guys on base all night and with 22 hits you would think they might have scored a few more runs. However, a couple strong
arms in the John Ross outfield and some shaky decision making by their own third base coach kept this one a little tighter than it should have
been.  Everybody in the line-up contributed in this one with at least one hit, Barchus, Sears, Kitchin and Millette all had three each.

The win was a big one as it moved the Naz into a first place tie in the 7:10 hour at Rotary Park. Next week the team will back on field #2
trying to continue their winning ways.
