BC/Naz Split Rain Make Up on Sunday
Beavercreek, OH- 8/1/2010

The Calendar said August first and the heat was turned way up at
Rotary Park for make-up weekend. Beavercreek Naz would start
the day off with a game against Zink’s. Zink’s knew the importance
of this game and loaded up their team with many faces that are not
normally there.
This one was tight from start to finish – Zink’s jumped out with a run
in the first and three more in the second. The Naz took advantage of
some wildness in the bottom of the second, accumulating six walks
and plating four runs to tie the game. Zink’s regained the lead with a
solo run in the third and the game stayed 5-4 until the bottom of the
fourth.
Charlie Carraher, Mike Mummert, Matt Bohlmann and James
Mummert all started the inning with hits. Joe Noya and Shawn
Kitchin both knocked in a run with ground outs and the Naz had
the lead.
They would add to the lead in the fifth, Ron Runyon (making his
initial appearance for the Naz on the year) started things with a hit,
Mark Spitzke followed with one and then later Mike Mummert
knocked in two and James Mummert plated the third run of the inning.
Runyon would add some insurance later with a two out run scoring triple and then he would also score on a hit by Spitzke. The Naz won this
one by a score of 11-6 after spotting Zink’s an early lead.
The next game pitted the Naz against King’s Table in the 7:10 league. On paper this one was a mismatch, but as we all know very few
games are actually played on paper.
King’s Table started the scoring right away with two runs in the top of the first. The Naz would answer in the bottom of the inning on hits by
Joe Noya and Justin Sears to tie the game at two. Then the thing happened that couldn’t happen – the bats went silent for a long time. By
the time the Naz would dent the plate again – the visitors had dinked and dunked their way to an 11-2 lead going to the bottom of the sixth
inning. Ron Runyon lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded for the Naz to scratch out a run and cut into the lead. After a solid inning of
defense – the Naz gave them a chance to do something special. Carraher started it again with a hit, and then a walk and a hit by Matt
Bohlmann plated the first run. A hit by James Mummert plated another one and then back-to-back doubles by Noya and Shawn Kitchin
made this one real interesting. The Naz finally made an out, then Tony Copper plated another run with a hit and that brought the tying run to
the plate. When you are down by so many that is all you can ask for – get the tying run to the plate and give yourselves a chance to win it. It
was not be however, as Kings Table got two straight fly outs to end the game. The Naz fought and battled, but just came up short by the
score of 11-9. They will look to avenge this loss in a couple of weeks when they get the rematch.
