NSA Tournament Champions: Street Kids/Tanel/TPS
Merrillville, IN-

Lanny Fisher, above, batted
.696 and drove in 14 runs in
five games as the Street
Kids/Tanel/TPS softball team
won their third tournament in
the last four attempts.

The team struggled on defense
at times as they were without
their middle infielder Brian
Lange, home nursing a sore toe.
But the Kids came through
when they needed and shut
down the opposition as they
won their second NSA event of
the 2007 season.

Shane Varga went 15-for-21
and drove in seven runs and
Jason Fowler went 11-for-16
with five extra base hits.

A scary moment happened just
prior to the start of the
championship game. Fowler,
taking some practice swings
just behind home plate, was
struck by a thrown ball in the
head. Fowler did not play in the
game and complained of
blurred vision as well as a
headache. He sought his own
medical attention and said he
hoped to be ready to play
Monday night.

The Kids have won 64 games
this season, counting all of the
teams in the franchise, and
raised their tournament record
to 28-12.

Up next for the team is a twin
bill against South County at the
Belleville Complex on Monday
night.
