Montgomery, AL -
The Street Kids Softball team made their debut in the 2007 ASA Class C National Championship in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday
and did not disappoint themselves as they defeated West Mobile Express, 21-13 and advance to the next round of the 69-team
tournament. They are scheduled to play Deluxe Bakery out of New Jersey, one of Northeast's best teams over the past decade.
Hank Minix went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and seven rbi's. TJ Jorgensen went 5-for-5 with a double and Terry Patesel and
Tim Soergel both added four hits each as the Kids improved their tournament record in 2007 to 49-16. They are searching for their
sixth tournament win of the season and the franchise's first ever national title. They already won the ASA Michigan State Championship
and finished second in the NSA Indiana State Tournament.
SKS was down 9-0 in the first inning, but great defense by the infield held WME to only four more runs the rest of the way as the Kids
battled back to win in seven innings. They play again at 10:30am Central Time on Saturday.
Deluxe Bakery maybe the toughest test the SKS team has ever faced. They have quite an impressive resume:
1994 ASA Class B state champions
1996 ASA Class B state champions
1998 ASA Class B state champions
1999 ASA Class B state champions
1999 NSA Class B state champions
2000 ASA Class B state champions
2002 ASA Class B state champions
2002 USSSA Class B state champions
2003 ASA Class A state champions
2004 ASA Class A state champions
2006 NSA Class C state champions
2006 USSSA Class C state champions
2007 NSA Class C state champions
2007 NSA Northeast World Series Champions
The Kids are hoping to pull the upset over the newly crowned NSA World Champions and advance to the final 16 of the winners
bracket.
Game 2 vs. Deluxe Bakery
The Kids had a lead against the multiple time state champion from New Jersey but couldn't hold it as Bakery held on to beat SKS, 17-9.
Jamie Everett had four hits and Terry Patesel had three in the loss.
Game 3 vs. Kass & Co.
Despite having a poor showing at the plate, SKS pulled out the slim victory over Kass, thanks to great defense. Terry Patesel, Nick
Bishop and Lanny Fisher all had three hits in the win
Game 4 vs. Suburban Softball
The SKS team remained undefeated against the tough Suburban Softball team from Michigan as they defeated them 17-9, thus
eliminating them from the tournament. This was the second time this summer the Kids eliminated Suburban from an ASA tournament,
dating back a month ago to the Michigan State tournament when SKS defeated Suburban on their way to winning the state title.
Game 5 vs. Hardwood Softball
In a game that went back and forth, the biggest moment would come when the first baseman from Hardwood would fail to hang on to a
sharp line drive by Nick Bishop, thus allowing the third run of the inning to score from second base and allow Bishop to reach second,
representing the winning run. TJ Jorgensen was intentionally walked and Tony Hardiman ripped a sharp single to center to give the
Kids a thrilling, come from behind victory, 13-12.
Game 6 vs. 4U Floors
The agonizing part of this game was the fact that the Kids were leading 17-1 in the fourth inning, but would ultimately lose to 4U
Floors, 24-21. 4U hit the ball very well as they battled back with an 18-run fifth inning. The Kids would get the game close in the
bottom of the seventh and even send the tying run to the plate, but 4U hung on and eliminated SKS from the National Championship.
SKS finished 13th out of 69 teams, not a bad finish given that over 50% of the teams in the tournament were Class B.
Street Kids were without many of the players that helped them to the Michigan State title, including Joe Horvath, Shane Varga, Dan
Garey and Jason Fowler. The Kids offense is the main reason of coming home earlier than they had hoped, but their defense is the
reason they hung around longer than anyone expected.
Up next the Street Kids will be league games on Thursday of this week and Monday and Thursday of the following week then the Kids
prepare for the NSA World Series, which taked place in Warsaw beginning on September 14th.

Veteran outfielder Terry Patesel led SKS' offense this weekend, batting .833.
