Street Kids to Volunteer at
Faith Mission
Players from organization to
help feed the homeless

Elkhart, IN 1/25/09
Street Kids Care announced today plans to
volunteer at the Faith Mission of Elkhart, Inc.,
a place that serves men, women and children
of Michiana who are going through some
difficult times.
"We are very excited to have the Street Kids
Softball team here with us on February 21st
to help serve and make a difference," said Mike
Perez of Faith Mission. "If it was not for people
like the Street Kids or any other volunteer, it
would be very difficult to serve as many people
as we do."
Faith Mission was established in 1956 by three Elkhart businessmen with a vision to reach out
to those on the streets of the city. From the opening of a new facility that can feed, shelter,
educate and care for nearly double the number of individuals to the increased utilization of
existing community resources and close cooperation with other agencies, the Mission seeks to
provide the broadest possible range of services for the greatest number of people. Whether its
a homeless man seeking shelter, a senior citizen needing a meal or a family who has lost their
home, Faith Mission believes that meeting the spiritual needs of those who come to them is
equally important. Daily devotions, chapel services and two faith-based recovery programs
are at the heart of the services offered at the Mission as they minister to the spiritual as well as
the physical needs of those who come to them for help.
"As most people know, our goal has always been to make a difference," said SKS director TJ
Jorgensen. "Whether that is working with the children in the community, children battling
cancer or walking in events to help promote awareness to a cause, it is what Street Kids Care
is all about. When our own Shane Varga and his wife Amy came to me about the idea of
working with Faith Mission, I jumped at the opportunity to have our group help those less
fortunate. After Amy and I took a tour of the facility and got to see first hand the work that
God has done with this facility and how much help they provide the community, I knew I
wanted to be involved."
On February 21st, members of Street Kids/Suburban softball will meet at the Faith Mission,
located at 801 Benham Road in Elkhart and serve lunch to not only the residents of the facility
but the walk-ins as well. The event begins around 11am and should conclude around 1pm.
"Amy and I have been talking about this for a while," said Shane Varga, who joined the SKS
organization in 2006. "Street Kids Softball is the most unique amateur sports organization in
the Midwest, where we take our ordinary athletes and ask them to do something
extraordinary. The fact that they come out and do it is what makes our organization so special."
Shane and Amy Varga are working on future ventures for Street Kids Care, including working
with Pet Refuge.
