The Street Kids Organization began as a simple softball team back in 1978 in
South Bend, Indiana when Dr. Xavier Creary, KC Pocius and Mike Fahey got
together and started the Street Kids team.
In the fall of 1996, TJ Jorgensen joined the team as a young player and in 2003
took full control of a team that has won countless league titles and tournaments in
the Michiana area. Creary and Pocius still play part time with the Street Kids today.
In 2005, Jorgensen began a website for the team to keep up with statistics,
schedules and even wrote a sports story for fun, just something to keep the
players excited about the game and the team. In the fall of 2005, Jorgensen
decided that with the joined efforts of Zolman Tire, Inc. as chief sponsor of the
team, he created StreetKidsSoftball.com, a full site dedicated to the team, its
history and its players. With more sponsors joining the organization, the site has
grown to over 50,000 visitors each week.
In the spring of 2006, the Street Kids Organization decided to place their love for
people and their passion for helping others ahead of winning softball games. They
actively began helping Sarah Schools-Clay to raise money for a special Stem Cell
surgery that would take place in Portugal. Clay, a former Mishawaka High School
athlete who suffered severe spinal cord damage during and ATV accident a few
years back, needed to raise $100,000 in order to have the surgery that she would
hope would began to reverse the effects of the accident, which left her paralyzed
from the waist down.
The Street Kids team helped to raise several thousands of dollars for Sarah and
her operation was successful and today Sarah is actually beginning to walk. The
organization is very proud of Sarah and will continue to support her.
After helping Sarah raise money for the surgery, Jorgensen and the rest of the
team decided they want to continue to help others who may have trouble helping
themselves. In the Fall of 2006, Street Kids Care began.
Street Kids Care is dedicated to helping others in the South Bend/Mishawaka and
surrounding areas. The organization has already taken part in countless efforts
including the American Cancer Society, Memorial Children's Hospital and many
others. The goal of Street Kids Care is to change lives, and thats what we plan to
do. If you are interested in joining Street Kids Care, either with monetary donations
or volunteering your time, please contact TJ Jorgensen at the number below.
Remember... life supersedes softball. We all love to play, but life is the ultimate
game. See you on the field.
