Mishawaka, IN-
The annual Corvilla Snowball Softball
tournament concluded Sunday in typical January weather conditions: 6-10” of
snow (depending on where you were) and 10 degree temperatures.
The Street Kids
Softball team, who merged with members of last years Corvilla tournament
winners, Network Design, came out strong in the first four rounds, winning all
four games, propelling themselves in the championship game of the winners
bracket. But a huge snowstorm came through the Michiana area Saturday night and
left tons of snow in its wake. The fields in Mishawaka were covered in snow,
around 8” to be more precise. The new
weather conditions proved to be too much for the SK/Network team, as they fell
to the BS Boys Sunday afternoon and then lost to Team 22’s (Aresenal) in the
loser’s bracket finals.
On Saturday, the
team played very well. Everyone hit
well and the defense looked good also. But just as the weather changed, so did
their hot bats.
“We just didn’t
have it today,” said Joe Richard. “We can’t blame the snow or the batters box
or the cold… because the other team had the same conditions. We just didn’t
play productive softball and we lost.”
The tournament
featured over 30 men’s teams and finishing third is not that bad, said pitcher
Lanny Fisher.
“If it’s a sign of
things to come in 2007, I am impressed,” said the veteran pitcher. “We showed
yesterday that we can handle two good teams and we played very well together. I’m
excited about what this season can bring.”
