Fort Wayne, IN-
In their 2007
tournament debut, the Street Kids/Tanel Softball team traveled to Fort Wayne,
Indiana to play in the Dome and battled for five games and ended up finishing
third, eliminated by Softball Fans of Kalamazoo, Michigan, the eventual
tournament winners.
The Street Kids
came out a little slow in the first game, and lost to Forest River/Hoopland
Farms 11-10 due to a time limit rule. The Kids scored eight runs in the sixth
inning, but they ran out of time to begin the seventh inning. The came back in
game two against MES and won 15-6, quickly figuring out the indoor way the game
is played inside the dome. In the next round, the Street Kids defeated
Shipshewana Merchants 17-6, and then moved into the next round of the losers
bracket for a revenge match against Forest River/Hoopland. They won that game
15-11 and set up for a semi-final showdown against Softball Fans, a team the
Kids have defeated three times in Kalamazoo in 2006 during their two tournament
wins in Michigan.
But Softball Fans
would prove to have too much, and the tired and sore Kids could not get anything
going offensively, and lost to the Fans, 21-10. Fans went on to defeat Arsenal/Wolfpack
in the final match and won the tournament.
No stats or records
were kept for this event, given the indoor rules. Members of the Street Kids team will participate with members of
Network Design next week to play in the Corvilla Snowball Softball tournament
in Mishawaka.
