Street Kids/Suburban South
Rejoins Easton in 2010
South Bend, IN 1/3/10
Street Kids Softball will once again partner with Easton
Sports in 2010.
On Saturday, Brett Helmer - Sports Marketing Manager
for Easton Sports - announced that he is welcoming back
the Street Kids/Suburban South/PAS softball team from
South Bend to the Easton family.
“I am thrilled to be back sponsoring the SKS group!" said
an excited Helmer. "I have yet to see another softball
organization work so hard at giving back to the community
and be a part of so many great charities. SKS and Easton
Sports - sounds like a winning team to me!”
Street Kids partnered with Brett Helmer and Easton in
2008, but went away from any specific bat deals in 2009,
choosing to allow players to pursue their own bat. But
when word had it that SKS was searching for a new bat
deal for 2010, Helmer told SKS owner TJ Jorgensen,
they belonged back home with Easton.
"Me personally, I have always liked Easton's products,"
Jorgensen said. "But I have always been a guy that wants
to give my players the choice of what to swing. Actually,
we were only two votes away from returning to Easton in
2009. I spoke to Brett on the phone for over an hour a
few weeks ago and he said we belonged with Easton. I
told him the 1.2 (bat performance factor) bats for NSA
were not a problem, but half our season was ASA
(leagues). He showed me some new products that came
out and we tested them."
There are several new bats out in 2010 from Easton,
including the Stealth Speed XL, which is one of the bats
several SKS players tested before finalizing the deal with
Helmer this weekend.
"Some guys were reluctant at first," Jorgensen added. "But
after they took a round of batting practice, they were
blown away."
"Its one of the best bats Easton has come out with in a
long time," said tournament player of the year Mark
Hershberger, referring to the Speed bat.
"This bat is one of the hottest Easton bats I have ever
seen," said Kyle Yerkes of Street Kids, who tested the
bat right out of the wrapper (see video). "I would consider
swinging this in NSA and USSSA as well, its that hot."
The deal is for only the Street Kids team from South
Bend, and the terms of the deal were not disclosed. The
team did agree to swing Easton bats exclusively in 2010,
as well as not wearing hats, t-shirts and pullovers
representing the competition, which were limited to the
other bat manufacturers in the sport.
