Street Kids Reach Deal
with Easton Sports
South Bend, IN-
The Street Kids Softball team will have a new bat sponsor in 2008.
The SKS organization reached a deal with Easton Sports over the
weekend that would allow the team to swing Easton softball bats
exclusively. Brett Helmer of Easton Sports set the deal for the defending
Michigan ASA state champions, one that he and TJ Jorgensen of SKS
have been working on for several weeks.
"We started talks back in December but I knew this was something that
would take some time to work out," said Jorgensen. "I'm sure the impact
that our organization has on the sport as well as the immense traffic the
website yields played a part in their decision. We are very excited to be
swinging Easton bats this year and look forward to making them very
proud."
Jorgensen worked with Helmer, a member of the legendary
Long Haul Bombers home run touring team that travels the
country bashing softballs out of major league stadiums, on the
deal directly and credits Helmer directly for the opportunity
Easton gave Street Kids.
"This was all his doing," Jorgensen added. "I just placed the
situation at his feet, showed him what we are capable of on
and off the field, and let our organization speak for itself."
Helmer was just as excited to bring the SKS organization
into the Easton family.
“Easton is proud to be the official bat of Street Kids Softball
and we look forward not just to the '08 season but a continued
partnership with this great organization for many years to come.”
The details of the deal were not disclosed, but the Kids will be
swinging only Easton equipment this year, but it is believed they
will be swinging the new Stealth Comp during ASA events and
the new Stealth Comp Plus for non-ASA events, including NSA
tournaments. They will also have the opportunity to use the new
Brett Helmer signature model, the Synergy Power Plus. As part
of the agreement, the Easton logo will be featured on the 2008
jerseys and the Kids will also wear Easton apparel exclusively.
Last season, SKS received a mid year sponsorship from
Louisville Slugger/TPS and worked directly with Hall of
Famer Hank Bassett. Jorgensen was sad to end the agreement with TPS,
especially with all that
Bassett and the Louisville
Slugger company did for
Street Kids in the latter
part of 2007, but
Jorgensen was confident
that the decision to go
with Easton was the
right one.
"Louisville Slugger makes great equipment," he said. "But with the new
sponsorship from Pennsylvania Avenue Sports for our uniforms, along
with the new Easton deal, we are now backed by two of the biggest
names in the sport, and in order for us to get to the goals that we set forth
every year, this is the right decision."
Helmer will be able to see his newly sponsored team in March as Street
Kids will return to the WSL Bash for Cash in Kentucky, an event that
Brett attends every year.
