Fisher Memorial Set

Buchanan, MI
When it comes to the sport of softball in Southwest Michigan,
there were few who had more of an impact on the game then
Al Fisher. Al lived for the game, he loved the game, and the
game became part of the Fisher family in Buchanan, Michigan,
where a field at McCoy Creek was aptly named after the
legendary Michigan Hall of Famer. If only Al were here today
to see how many lives he touched in his decades of the game he
loved.
The 2nd annual Al Fisher Memorial softball tournament is set for
April 26-27 in Buchanan, Michigan, said Street Kids Softball
pitcher, and son of the late legend, Lanny Fisher. Last season,
hundreds of people turned out to show their love and support for
the man who changed softball in this small community forever.
"We all have so many fond memories of my dad," said Lanny.
"Each of us will always have a special place for him in our hearts
- for so many different reasons."
Last season, a memorial was built with a special plaque in Al's
honor and a very emotional Fisher family watched as hundreds
of people who held a special place for Al showed their respect and love for the fallen legend. This season, a
special moment of silence will be held to remember Al once again and popcorn will be served free all
weekend long because Al loved popcorn so much...
As far as the details of the weekend, here they are:
The men's tournament will be held on Saturday and may have to be finished on Sunday, depending on the
number of teams. The coed tournament will be held on Sunday, and both events will feature a round robin,
thus guaranteeing each team at least four games.
The entry fee is $175 with proceeds going toward a new scoreboard bearing Al's name at the new girls
softball field.
There will be three divisions of play: Men's upper, Men's lower and Coed. The home run rule for the
divisions are as follows: upper: 5 and one up; lower: 1 home run.
There will also be a home run derby where any person can participate and can use any bat you choose -
legal or not.
