Joe Horvath Returns to Street Kids

One of area’s best players looks to make SK the best team

Mishawaka –

He is arguably the best softball player in the entire Michiana area and he will prove that in 2007 wearing a Street Kids jersey.

Joe Horvath, who has played in 32 national tournaments and is a three time world champion, returns to the Zolman Tire/Street Kids/Tanel softball team for a full season in 2007, with goals of making the Street Kids team the best around.

“I had fun with this team last year and I am looking forward to this season,” said Horvath via email on Friday. “With Lanny (Fisher) coming on board and the possible addition of Langer (Brad Lang), who is the best infielder around, combined with an already loaded team, this should be a fun year.”

Horvath batted an insane .814 with 38 home runs and 130 runs batted in, playing in 37 games. He helped lead the Street Kids to the Monday Fall League championship with a perfect 14-0 record, a second place finish in the Wednesday South Bend Fall League (11-2 record) and played in two tournaments last season, winning 10 of 12 tournament games, including the Mishawaka Fall Championship event.  His .814 was second only to Fisher, who announced his return to the Street Kids on Wednesday.  Neither Fisher nor Horvath had the minimum at bats to qualify for post season awards, but that should change in 2007.

“It will an interesting MVP race for sure,” said TJ Jorgensen, SK manager and former MVP. “With Joe, Lanny, Jamie (Everett), Jason (Fowler) and Hank (Minix, 2006 MVP winner)… it will be exciting.”

The team will have three men’s league teams in 2007, two of which will feature the highly competitive players and the third being a little more relaxed. Horvath will play on the first two teams and will also play in tournament action this season, except for NSA (National Softball Association), where he is a member of Tri-City Electric, a men’s Major team.
