Portage, MI-
When Jeff Arnold left the Street Kids Softball team to move back to his home town area of Kalamazoo,
Michigan two years ago, he never thought he would be heading up his own Street Kids team and helping
to spread the word of Street Kids Care in Michigan.
This past weekend, the Kalamazoo Street Kids Softball team partnered with Cruiser's Pub and held
their first Charity Texas Hold-em Tournament, with proceeds going toward the Portage (Michigan)
Community Center. The event was highly successful with 19 players coming out to take part in the event
and raised about $500 for the community center. They were even able to pay out $450 in prize money
as well.
"This was exciting for sure," said Arnold. "To be able to know that we were able to make a difference in
the community and still have fun doing it is awesome."
"I'm really proud of Jeff and everyone involved with the Kalamazoo (SK) team," said SK Director TJ
Jorgensen. "Jeff has a big heart and when he moved back up there he said he wanted to take a piece of
what we do here with him. This was the first step in the right direction."
Arnold has several more events lined up including helping to raise money for the Portage AM Rotary
Club, the Portage Lions Club as well as having another event to help even more at the Portage
Community Center. Arnold also wanted to make sure a special thank you went out to Cruiser's Pub,
Mike Martin and Rob Comstock for their help with the event. Martin and Comstock are both members
of the Kalamazoo team.
"Without their help, this would not have gone as well as it did," he added. "We also wanted to thank all
of the players who showed up and supported the Community Center. We appreciate it very much."
