Mishawaka, IN-
After five weeks of promoting the Tim Brown jersey raffle to raise money for Sarah Clay’s Stem Cell surgery, a winner was chosen by Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rea on Friday afternoon. That winner was Justin Maust of Five Star Destiny.
Five Star had the greatest chance of winning as they had 200 tickets in the drawing. When contacted about winning the jersey, Five Star’s spokesman Justin Maust was ecstatic.
“My first thought was ‘Are you sure?’”, Maust said through a phone conversation today. “I turned to some kids around me and told them and they were all excited. I’m not sure what we are going to do with the jersey yet, but we will do something that will benefit our organization and the community.”
Mayor Rea was asked to pull the winning ticket today and close out the raffle. To watch the video of the raffle, click here.
As the raffle now concludes, the total amount raised for Sarah on behalf of the Street Kids Softball Organization was exactly $2,000. The softball tournament held back on April 1st and 2nd raised about $6,000.
“I am so proud of our team,” said SK Organization Director TJ Jorgensen. “A lot of the players helped sell the tickets at their places of employments, sold some at tournaments, at family functions… they did a great job. I also want to thank JR Shapiro for donating the jersey. His kindness helped raise $2,000 for Sarah and I know her family is very grateful.”
Mayor Rea was also appreciative of the Street Kids help.
“I want to personally thank TJ Jorgensen and the entire Street Kids organization,” Rea said during the raffle drawing. “Having someone in the community to reach out to people like Sarah is what makes Mishawaka so special.”
Sarah’s mother, Anne White, also thanked the organization via email this afternoon and said that words can not express how grateful she is.
