Harlacher Edges Krill for Gold Glove
6% of the total votes determined the winner
Mishawaka, IN-

Ryan Harlacher is just 22 years old. On a team that began
before he was born (1978), he is the youngest player.  His
youth and determination - not to mention his athletic ability -
enabled him to win this years Zolman Tire/Street Kids Softball
team Gold Glove Award on Friday.

In a voting poll done strictly by players on the team or affiliated
with the team, Harlacher beat out pitcher/outfielder Randy Krill
by just one vote, or 6% of the teams votes.  Also getting votes
were Chad Doan and Jay Ryan.

"Wow," said a shocked Harlacher via a telephone call Friday.
"Honestly, I thought Randy deserved it.  I voted for him. To
step up from outfielder to pitcher and play at the level he did
was amazing.  But I'm glad that my teammates feel that I play
hard and try to help us win. I'll thank all of them at the banquet
in a couple of weeks."

Harlacher joined the team in the beginning of the fall session in
South Bend and helped lead the team to an 11-3 finish, up
from an 8-17 summer, including tournaments. He made an
immediate impact playing centerfield in a three man outfield,
allowing the team to place an additonal player on the infield as
a lot of competitive teams do.

"I have only been playing this game for 10 years," said
Manager TJ Jorgensen. "But I have played a lot and seen a lot
of players at almost every level and he is one of the best I've
seen. Its too bad there can't be two winners because Randy is
one of the best defensive pitchers I've ever seen as well."

Harlacher will be given his award at a banquet later this month.
On Monday, the team will announce the winner of the
Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Ryan Harlacher's exceptional defense and hustle was rewarded Friday by
his teammates with the Gold Glove Award.
