Combine for a Shot at 35+ World Title
South Bend, IN  9/28/09

The combined team of Suburban/SKS from Kalamazoo and Street Kids/Suburban South from South Bend
played in the NSA 35 and over Major World Series this past weekend and despite only having 11 players,
they finished in third place.

After defeating Pittsburgh Tailgaters 21-17 in the opening game, SKS beat Deharts 27-6 in the second
round game. During the third inning of that game, SKS scored 14 runs and Deharts never recorded an out
on the field. The only outs in the inning were two home runs for outs and a foul out.

In the winners bracket finals, Suburban-Street Kids played a very tough B&C/Miken team and despite
hanging with the them for most of the game, B&C would hold of SKS, 20-15, forcing the Kids to the losers
bracket finals against Team Koehn/Thorntons. Koehn was one of the favorites to win the tournament with a
team full of current and former major players.

SKS jumped ahead early, taking a 12-0 lead after the first inning, but Koehn battled back, scoring 17 runs
in the bottom of the second inning - all with two outs. The defense was shaky, allowing several errors, but
Koehn hit the ball very well and even though the Kids tied the game at 18 in the fifth, Koehn put the game
away in the sixth, winning 30-18.

Suburban-Street Kids finished third and B&C/Miken eventually won the 35+ major world championship,
with Koehn finishing second. Marc Streeter led all players with an .882 average, while Johnny Simpson and
Joe Horvath both batted .765. Mike Malesko batted .750 and Kalei Enterline also had a good tournament
with a .733 average.

Suburban/SKS and Street Kids of South Bend will wrap up their 2009 tournament season in Nashville,
Tennessee next weekend at the NSA "B" Super World Series.

Joe Horvath of SKS homered three times, giving him 101 for the season. He is the only player in the 31 year
history of Street Kids Softball to hit at least 100 home runs in two or more seasons. Horvath finished with
113 last season, second only to Jake Underwoods record high 123.
