The street kids south started league play this week in lafayette. The kids have been off to a rocky start in
some earlier tournaments and were looking forward to getting some games under there belts and to actually
have a full team. Not once this year has the the street kids had there whole team.South's first opponent of
the year was 9 irish brothers. South lost the coin toss and had to hit first. The first inning didn't start well,
the south offense couldn't get anything going and had some defensive mishaps and found themselves down
5-0 going into the second, that's were things changed. South batted around the lineup and had a 10-5 lead
after that. T he runs keep coming with the game ending in the 4th inning as south won 32-10.Luke Flora
and Brady Crisp each homered for south.Josh Bowman,Casey Smith,Derek Stephen,AND Robby Pitts
each tripled in the win with casey getting two.
On thursday night the kids played Chumley's. A rival team to anyone who plays them. Chumley's led by
usssa all-americans kyle mckinsey and adam frier looked like a tough match up for the kids, but the kids
came out on fire and put up 5 runs in the first inning, top off by a three-run homerun by travis morgan. south
played great defense all night holding the chumley's high powered offense to just 2 runs. As a whole we
played excellent defense. They tried to get into oour heads but we just wouldn't allow it. Travis morgan and
josh bowman led south with three hits a piece. South also picked up as a pitcher for league play former
chumley's player joel gentry. Joel was very happy with the win and glad he has joined the south squad.
south has two games thiw week tuesday at 7:00 against the thirty shockers and thursday at 7:00 against are
former teammates the flyballers.
