Suburban/SKS Win Second
Straight NSA State Title!
Three straight mercies give Suburban NSA state crown
Ryan "Gnome" Lyster was named the State
MVP for his outstanding play.
Jackson, MI-

For the second straight season, the Suburban Softball/SKS team was crowned
NSA Class B State Champions.

In the opening game of the state title run, Suburban was pitted against
Hardball Fans/TPS and made quick work of them, winning 13-1. The
game was highlighted by an 11-run first inning that pretty much sealed
the game. In that first inning, Ryan Lyster and Guy Morton both hit
three run homers, along with Rob Stellini and Troy Fairbanks also
connecting for a home run each.

In the second game, Suburban played Production Engineering, and
made quick work with them, winning 21-6. Todd Fairbanks hit a
three run home run, while Troy Fairbanks, Ben Knight and Rob
Stellini all connected for two run shots.

So Suburban/SKS was in the championship game and awaited their opponents, which turned out to be
Hardball Fans once again. New game, same result... Suburban put up 14 runs in the first inning, highlighted
by home runs by Todd Fairbanks, Chris Douglass, Tim Medema and Matt Lavender, who hit a grand slam.
Todd Gooding and Ben Knight were a perfect 4-for-4 in the championship game as the Suburban team
rolled to an easy 27-10 victory, and their second straight state title.

The closest competition of the day took place off the field when the state most valuable player was chosen.
Ryan "Gnome" Lyster edged out Todd Gooding for the award, and Warren Williams was named defensive
MVP. Gooding, Troy Fairbanks, Time Medema and Guy Morton were all named to the All-Tournament
team. After the game, Gooding spoke to SKS.com:

"In each game we started fast, and never looked back," said the slugger, who finished the day with an
average of .889, making only one out. "Anytime you win a state championship it's special...we have a great
group of guys, and that makes it that much more sweeter. Another thing that made this special was I think
we were able to get four guys their first state title (Douglass, Williams, Sean Norman and Doug Paulsen),
and that is really nice for any player."

Up next for the state champions is league games against BW3's in Kalamazoo on August 6th. This double
header could make a big impact on the final standings, as Suburban/SKS split a double header with BW3's
back on June 25th.
