Despite going undefeated heading into the
championship game of the 2009 NSA Class B
state championship, Suburban/SKS of
Kalamazoo were double dipped in the title games
and finished second. They lost the first game
25-24 then lost the "if" game 19-8.

"We played great until the last game," said
manager BJ Roberts. "I think Pook (Filkins)
maybe made one out all day, and we were diming
teams. But things fell apart in the if game and we
had to settle for second place."

Suburban/SKS was making a bid for their third
straight NSA state title and fourth out of the last
five years. In 2005, they won the Class C state
and regional title, and in 2007 and 2008 they
won the Class B state title.

Pook Filkins, Guy Morton and Todd Fairbanks
were named to the all-state team.
