Special "Thanks" from TJ Jorgensen...
I wanted to thank everyone for the posts on the
message board, as well as the dozens of emails
I have received regarding our opener with the
children from Memorial Children’s Hospital at
Belleville a few days ago. After talking with the
players that night, I think they had just as much
fun as the kids did.
We can only hope that the joy we helped them
find Monday will continue to remain with them
as they battle this terrible disease.
Joe Horvath and I had a chance to visit with
Jackie, a young man at Memorial the other day
as he was going through some really tough times.
Jackie was unable to make it to the game Monday, so we decided to go visit him the next day, bringing two
balls, a brand new glove and a shirt, all signed by the players on our team.
Jackie was very tired and weak, but I can only hope that the infectious energy that we brought with us
moves through him and his family, bringing back that wonderful smile that has been hard to find lately.
As one person on our message board said, “childhood is supposed to be about playing, riding bikes and
skinning your knees. These poor kids may never experience those wonderful times and to give them a little
joy is special.”
Seeing Jackie in that bed had me choked up. He should be out there skinning his knees and playing, not
laying in a hospital bed like this.
Again, thanks to everyone who supports the change we are trying to make and for what we stand for off
the field. If we continue to reach other ball players and people with our message, then more awareness can
be brought to this horrible disease, and hopefully someday a cure can be found.
