South Bend, IN
The Street Kids/Suburban South softball team
- and Street Kids Care - took part in the
annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Walk on Saturday, October 11th in Howard
Park. Several members of the team, including
friends and family, enjoyed perfect weather
while walking just over three miles for breast
cancer awareness.
"Its amazing to see all these people out here,
doing their part," said Shane Varga of SKS.
The event is the largest money-raising event
that the American Cancer Society hosts,
raising over $240 million since 1993, and over
$50 million in 2007 alone. Locally, close to
$80,000 is reportedly raised for breast cancer
treatment, education and awareness.
"Breast Cancer is a killer and the only way to
help is getting involved with events like this,"
said TJ Jorgensen of SKS. "I love seeing our
friends and teammates our here, giving up a
Saturday morning to show their support."
