"This game showed a lot of heart," Jorgensen said after the game. "To come back against a good team like that and not give up was amazing."
Unfortuneatly, the rest of the day did not go as well. The next game, the Kids lost to
Powell's, 24-13. They actually only scored 10 runs, but Powell's hit a couple of home
runs over the limit, giving the Kids three runs (NSA progressive rule). Jeff Arnold led
the team in this game with a perfect four hits in four at bats. Dave Myers, Jorgensen,
Hank Minix and Robbie Hurt all added two hits each, while Meadows connected for
the lone home run.
The next game featured the Kids winning 9-8 against a below average Class E team,
but a win none the less. Dave Myers led the team with three hits and two RBI's, and
Arnold, Ryan Harlacher, Hurt and Krill all added two hits each. That would be where
the fun would end for the Kids.
The next game the Kids played a good but very beatable Class D team, Glasser Ebbs,
and it was not pretty. The Kids fell to Ebbs, 19-6, and finished the tournament 2-2,
which is where the season record now sits at until the next tournament, scheduled for
April 29th in Michigan City. In the final game, only two players managed two hits,
Jorgensen and Doan. Jorgensen also had the loan extra base hit - a first inning double -
in the contest.
"On one hand you can say it was a disappointing day," Jorgensen added. "On the other, it was our first time out together as a team in a tough
qualifier and we were playing with a band-aid on our team as we were nursing injuries all day. Going 2-2 is not that bad and it is definately
something to build on."
Randy Krill suffered another set back to his surgically repaired knee, as he fell running from second base in the third game. He sat out the final
game, as did Dave Morrical, who played the first two games on a stiff back, but the pain grew and was forced to come out of the tournament. His
status is in the air for now.
In closing, the team cannot hang their heads on this loss. To begin with, its their first tournament of the year, and the first high level of competition
for many players. League games will not even start for a couple of weeks so it will be hard to expect the Kids to come out sharp in Michigan City
on the 29th as well. But this team has a good nucleus and is fun to play with. Judging by the result of their first game win, they showed they have
good character and will have a great season.

Sloppy Defense, Untimely Hitting Reason for Losing
|
Warsaw, Indiana-
The best way to describe the Zolman Tire/Street Kids/Tanel softball team's first
ever appearance in an NSA tournament would be a learning experience.
The Kids struggled at the plate and also on the field on Saturday, April 15th, as
they managed to go 2-2 in the NSA World Series qualifier. They failed to qualify
and will try again in two weeks in Michigan City.
The team opened the tournament against Diggers, the new NSA team that long
time SK outfielder Joe Richard joined in the offseason. After being down 16-4 in
the fourth inning, the Kids rallied for a thrilling 21-16 win. In that game, Tony
Hardiman and Corey Hamel each had three hits and three RBI's each, while TJ
Jorgensen connected for the only home run in the game and also walked three
times and drove in three runs. Jeremy Meadows, Chad Doan, Jeff Arnold and
Randy Krill all added two hits each, while Doan drove in a team high four runs.
