ASA Loses a Leader in the
Death of Wayne Myers
by Bob Waters 1/10/2010
A good friend of mine and most of you, Mr. Wayne L. Myers passed away
today. It was not unexpected, as at 84 he had been battling liver cancer for
nearly a year. From December 6, 1976 until his death January 10, 2010 –
Wayne Myers was the Indiana ASA State Commissioner. Wayne and his
wife Phyllis, lived a good, but modest life. Wayne was a leader of men, and
a promoter of Indiana ASA softball. Wayne was an honest, hard working,
old-school man of integrity. Wayne said what he meant, and meant what he
said. Wayne was a fierce competitor, who hated to lose. What Wayne may
have lacked in formal education, he made up for in passion, energy, and effort.
It is going to be tough going forward without Wayne Myers, but forward we (Indiana ASA) shall go. It may take us longer to reach our
goals, but reach the goals we will. We can not do anymore for Wayne Myers, he is gone forever. God has a new job for him. We must
however continue to work together for the good of Indiana ASA. We do not yet know who will “Captain the ship”, but their will be
plenty of work for everyone. We must stay focused and “grab an oar, and start rowing”. If we all continue to pull together, the load on
each will be light. We will work according to Wayne’s well established guidelines (our Constitution and Bylaws), and attempt to meet
Wayne’s high standards. We will continue, as Wayne did, to improve the process – to provide more, to more, for less. In doing this we
will honor the memory of Wayne Myers. Wayne would ask no more of us than that.
May God continue to bless Phyllis Myers and the family. Please join me in supporting Phyllis and family through prayer.

"The Street Kids Softball family is saddened to hear of the loss of one of the greats in the sport of slow pitch softball. Our
hearts go out to Mrs. Myers and pray that God will comfort her in this very difficult time." - TJ Jorgensen
