in Ohio; Earn National Berth
Delphos, OH 6-20-09
The Street Kids/Suburban South/PAS softball
team traveled to Delphos, Ohio for their second
WSL event of the year (Cincinnati, Ohio in
March), looking for their sixth tourney win of the
year, and searching for their WSL national
qualifier. They achieved that and more.
SKS went a perfect 4-0 en route to winning first
tournament since May 16th in Merrillville, and their
sixth win of the year overall. They improved to
53-19 overall and 34-16 in tournaments.
The offense came alive in Ohio this weekend as they Kids put together a .724 team batting average, including
six players hitting over .800. The team was without infielders Dan Garey and Chris Firebaugh, but got a lift
from former world champion Justin Newcomer, who made his SKS debut with the team on Saturday.
"Its nice to be out here and playing with friends," said the veteran outfielder, nicknamed J-Tall. "I'm glad I got
to get out of town and bring my girlfriend and son, who both had a great time also. It was a fun day."
With the victory, the team is now qualified to play in the WSL National Championship in Panama City, Florida
this Fall.
